Dr. Stefania Grasso is a distinguished practitioner, holding certification as an American Board Certified Anesthesia and Analgesia Specialist (DACVAA). Following her graduation from the University of Perugia, Italy, she worked in private practice in Italy and the United Kingdom. After working at the University of Maisons-Alfort in Paris, Dr. Grasso's path led her to Purdue University in the USA, where she completed her residency training in anesthesia and analgesia. Her dedication and expertise were recognized with her appointment as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia.
Her passion for education and mentorship was evident during her time as a clinical instructor in the anesthesia department at the University of Montreal where she supervised interns and residents while also lecturing students. She presented and published internationally in veterinary anesthesiology while exploring her strong interests in loco-regional anesthesia and pain management.
At the Veterinary Specialty Clinic for Anesthesia and Neurology (the VSCAN) in Ottawa, Dr. Grasso has provided invaluable support to the practice’s neurology, neurosurgery, and advanced imaging teams as the head of the Anesthesia service. She also established a mobile anesthesia service for the veterinary community in the Ottawa/Gatineau area to make anesthesia services more accessible. Through clinic visits, training sessions, and education initiatives, she promotes best practices in anesthesia and pain management.
Dr. Grasso’s supportive teaching style and hands-on approach have earned her recognition as a mentor and educator in the veterinary community. She advocates for the involvement of board-certified anesthesiologists in treating high-risk patients, emphasizing the importance of tailored anesthesia protocols to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
In her spare time, Stefania loves traveling and exploring new places with her family and cooking Italian dishes!
